Become a Fat-Burner Instead of a Sugar-Burner
The Diabetes and Osteoporosis Connection.

This article is not just for people who have been diagnosed with diabetes. Many alternative physicians and nutritionists think that a very high percentage of Americans have problems with excess sugar in their blood. Heart attack victims often prove to have high blood sugar. In fact, high blood sugar is implicated in almost every one of the chronic diseases of the typical older American.

Dr. Ron Rosedale, author of the excellent book, "The Rosedale Diet," has been studying the interactions between excess sugar in the blood and disease for years. He thinks that the prevalence of sugar in the American diet has led most people to become sugar-burners. This is a short path to disease and early death and the statistics on diabetes-related deaths are alarming.

   Sugar burning and osteoporosis

The connection between sugar burning and osteoporosis is this: when your cells have learned to burn sugar for their fuel then they will not burn fat, no matter how much extra fat you have. If you don't give the cells the sugar they want, they will take it out of your muscles and your bones. So your cells first cause you to crave sugar, then, if you are sleeping and don't give it any, they will melt down your muscles and bones instead.

The way we have become sugar-burners is by having sugar pouring down our throats almost all day long. Some people tell me that they are really not sweet eaters. What they don't realize is that bread, all grains, even potatoes, all turn into sugars as soon as they are digested. The only foods that don't turn into sugars are fats and protein.

We are often allergic to grains and therefore crave them daily. Most people who eat bread, eat it every day. In fact, if you take the non-sweet eater's bread away, it would be like taking candy from a sweet craver. Listen to them whine.

To test if you are allergic to sugar or bread, all you have to do is not have any at all for a day. See how you feel. Are you miserable? Then have some on an empty stomach the next morning and see how you feel. If you feel suddenly happier then you've just had a fix of your favorite allergen.

   Becoming a fat-burner

When we make up our minds to become fat-burners instead of sugar-burners, we are taking a giant step towards a healthy second half of life. You have to read the whole book, "The Rosedale Diet," to understand the process well enough to become motivated. Dr. Rosedale is a genius and has the answer to most of the degenerative diseases that we don't want to get as we age.

The process of becoming a fat-burner takes about three weeks and involves cutting sugar in every form out of our diet. The first days are not pleasant. If you think of yourself as an addict kicking her addiction, you will be close to the truth.

Fish Oils - the Good Fats

During this time, and forever after, you will want to increase your intake of the good fats, the omega 3s and lower the less good fats, the omega 6s. They should be a 1:1 ratio. Saturated fats and trans-fatty acids have to leave your diet completely. The good fats are fish oil, olive oil and macadamia nut oil. That's it! Not canola, not corn oil, never, never margarine. By the way, the words fish oil make some people gag but this is the new fish oil. It tastes like lemon and is quite easy to take.

It's not fats that make us fat. It's the carbohydrates that turn quickly into sugar. We can surely all see that from the fallout of the low-fat diet craze. You see so many obese people in the market with carts full of sugar-making carbs. The extra sugar is stored as fat and the fat never gets burned because within the next hour there's more carbs coming down the hatch to burn. These poor people are malnourished, they lack the essential nutrients of life.

One amazing side effect of the extra fish oil is that diabetic blood sugars go down within the week. Mine went to normal and they stay there as long as I stick to the diet. It really isn't that hard to stick to once you have become a fat-burner. But a sugar-holic is like an alcoholic; that first piece of sugar will do you in! Then you have another struggle to regain control of your health. Finally you learn that, no matter whose birthday it is; no cake! It's just not worth it.

For those of us who are thin diabetics, it is impossible to gain weight. At night our bones and muscles are robbed for sugar and any gains we made from working out are gone. Until we change to fat-burners there is no way to gain muscle. When we do change over, we have to make sure to eat a lot of good fat in the diet because we don't have the excess body fat to burn up like most diabetics.

Since I have become a fat-burner my whole way of being in the world has changed. I am not hyper any more. Without a constant supply of sugar roaming around in my system with nowhere to go, I am calmer, more peaceful, less excitable. But unlike a manic-depressive, I don't feel depressed and I don't miss the sugar mania.

Life is good as a fat-burner.  So good I want to spread the word. If you have problems with blood sugar get "The Rosedale Diet" and get your life back.
